Minnesota Veterans Treatment Courts

The Minnesota Veterans Treatment Court offers alternatives to honorably-discharged Veterans who are charged with non-violent felonies or misdemeanors. Our mission is to help Veterans recover and assimilate into society, connect with Veteran Organizations and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

We operate out of the Office of Public Defender and we cooperate with Court Administration, the Minnesota Attorney’s Office, private attorneys, the local Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs and numerous community partners.

The program, established in 2013, helps veterans in the criminal justice system break the cycle of substance abuse, illegal activity and mental illness.

Minnesota Veterans Court is a joint effort designed to recognize that veterans may be struggling as a result of their service to our country and those collateral consequences may have contributed to their contact with the criminal justice system. We collaborate to identify eligible veterans who have been charged with a crime and connect them to the services they’ve earned to address any underlying problems they may be experiencing.
