The Ohio Veterans Treatment Court offers alternatives to honorably-discharged Veterans who are charged with non-violent felonies or misdemeanors. Our mission is to help Veterans recover and assimilate into society, connect with Veteran Organizations and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
We operate out of the Office of Public Defender and we cooperate with Court Administration, the Ohio Attorney’s Office, private attorneys, the local Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs and numerous community partners.
Ohio Veterans Treatment Court Judges and a veterans mentor coordinator describe their courts and answer audience questions during a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program at the Columbus (OH) Police Training Academy on December 3, 2015.
Ohio Veterans Treatment Court put the emphasis on treatment and diversion rather than punishment. The Ohio Department of Veterans Services has established effective working relationships with these courts in order to provide guidance and assistance on issues like sustainable funding and obtaining certification from the Ohio Supreme Court.
