Texas Veterans Treatment Court is a specialized court designed to meet the particular needs of the veteran community. The goal is to promote sobriety, recovery, and stability through a coordinated response that involves the cooperation and collaboration of many different levels of the Veterans Treatment Court team.
We operate out of the Office of Public Defender and we cooperate with Court Administration, the Texas Attorney’s Office, private attorneys, the local Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs and numerous community partners.
An alternative court program in Texas seeks to rehabilitate veterans who turn to crime for the first time. The Veterans Endeavor for Treatment and Support (VETS) Court is a Veterans Treatment Court launched in January 2016 at Texas. The VETS Court works to divert veterans with service-connected mental health or substance use disorders out of the court system and into enduring treatment solutions with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The program is the first-ever Veterans Treatment Court launched on a military installation, but it joins a growing movement of more than 400 Veterans Treatment Courts nation-wide
Our mission is to successfully rehabilitate the JIV by diverting them from the traditional criminal justice system and providing them with the tools they need to lead a productive and law-abiding lifestyle while improving mental health recovery and successful re-entry into the community.
Texas Veterans Treatment Court offers alternatives to honorably-discharged Veterans who are charged with non-violent felonies or misdemeanors. Our mission is to help Veterans recover and assimilate into society, connect with Veteran Organizations and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
